Produced by Jim Albritton | The Adams County Sheriff's Department and others rescued a balloon and crew stranded in the middle of the Mississippi River during the "barge drop" competition in the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race on October 16, 2010. Despite his difficulties on this day, Tom Oberheide, the balloon's pilot, went on to place first in the race. The barge drop isn't counted as part of the overall race.
