Columbus Air Force Base’s ‘Pilot for a Day’ Program Leaves a Paralyzed Boy on Cloud Nine

Produced by Jim Albritton | Six-year-old Barkley Jenkins, paralyzed in a January 2012 car accident, had the time of his life as “Pilot for a Day” at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. The Charleston, Mississippi native, a patient at Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, toured the base and was honored at each stop by pilots and crew.

Revived Heart Transplant Program at Batson Children’s Hospital Builds on a 20-Year Legacy 

Produced by Jim Albritton | KJ Page is the fourth child since September 2011 to receive a heart transplant at Batson Children’s Hospital. The revived program builds on a 20-year legacy that began in 1992 when a Rankin County five-year-old became the first child in Mississippi to undergo the then groundbreaking surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Dedicated runners and first-timers wanted to achieve a personal best. For 15-year-old Harrison Miley and his family, the goal was simpler: to support the state's only children's hospital.
