High-tech Therapy Lends Methodist Rehabilitation Center Patients Helping Hand 

Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson recently became one of only six centers in the Southeast -- and the only one in Mississippi -- to offer the innovative Armeo Spring therapy. The system, which pairs an assistive movement device with a virtual reality training program, can be used for patients who have suffered arm paralysis or weakness due to stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries and other neurological disorders.

Good Neighbor Day | Three hours, 30,000 Roses and One Great Cause 

Produced by Jim Albritton | In 1994, Brook Jacobs, a florist and owner of Greenbrook Flowers in Jackson, Mississippi, created Good Neighbor Day. Sixteen years later it has blossomed worldwide. The concept is simple: one day each September thousands of roses are given away by the dozen. Each person who takes them promises to keep one for themselves and give the others to friends, family or perfect strangers. For years the event in Jackson has also benefited the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

Batson Law Enforcement Run

Produced by Jim Albritton | Graduates of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy--now serving in various state and local law enforcement agencies--participated in a symbolic one-mile run from Millsaps College to the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children on the University of Mississippi Medical Center Campus. The run is intended to show support for the patients and staff at Mississippi's only children's hospital. Runners made donations and presented more than $1,000 to Dr. Bev Evans, Chairman of Pediatrics, at UMMC.

Mississippi State Football Team Visits Batson Hospital

This is the fifth year the Bulldogs have taken a time-out to see patients at the state's only children's hospital.

XBOX 360 game rooms open at Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children 

Produced by Jim Albritton | Bruce Hoffman, a representative from Microsoft, along with Dr. Owen Evans, chairman of pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, cut a ribbon opening two Microsoft Xbox 360 game rooms at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

Last fall, Batson Hospital took part in the six-week Children's Miracle Network Xbox 360 Gameroom Giveaway Promotion. Three of the 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals nationwide that garnered the most votes online won a $10,000 gameroom makeover.

Due to overwhelming community support, Batson Hospital finished third behind Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan and the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. These three hospitals received more votes than children's hospitals in the nation's largest metropolitan areas.
