Produced by Jim Albritton | In 1994, Brook Jacobs, a florist and owner of Greenbrook Flowers in Jackson, Mississippi, created Good Neighbor Day. Sixteen years later it has blossomed worldwide. The concept is simple: one day each September thousands of roses are given away by the dozen. Each person who takes them promises to keep one for themselves and give the others to friends, family or perfect strangers. For years the event in Jackson has also benefited the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

Produced by Jim Albritton | Representatives from University of Alabama Alumni Associations in Mississippi presented a $71,808 check to the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. The check represents proceeds from UA car tags sold in Mississippi. The groups and the University of Alabama worked with the Mississippi legislature to pass a law that allows those proceeds to go directly to the hospital instead of into the state's general fund. The University and its Alumni Associations in Mississippi will present a similar check representing those specialty car tag fees each year to Mississippi's only children's hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
